Krylov Centre’s proposals for Northern Sea Route shipping

26 april 2016

19 April, 2016, the Krylov Centre took part in a joint session of the Scientific Expert Council and Business Council of the State Commission on Arctic Development, discussing plans on setting up the single transportation/logistic operator for the Northern Sea Route shipments. The session chaired by Artur Chilingarov (Russian President’s Representative on International Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic) reviewed over 100 proposals regarding the transportation operator appointment.

Vladimir Putin some time back, on 17 Sept. 2015, following the Eastern Economic Forum, instructed the Far-East Region Ministry to draft a financial & economic blueprint to make NSR a competitive transport corridor including container shipments.

On 9 March 2016 the Russian Vice-Prime Minister Dmitry Ragozin, speaking at the State Commission session on the Arctic development, in Murmansk, made a proposal to hold a focused meeting on the Northern Sea Route to determine the dedicated logistic operator.

Thus, recommendations worked out at the 19th April joint session of the Scientific Expert and Business Councils are going to be addressed in detail at the special session of the State Commission.

The Krylov Centre is represented at the Arctic State Commission Presidium as well as at the Presidium of its Scientific Expert Council by Director General Vladimir Nikitin.
