Theory of ship and hydrodynamics at Krylov State Research Centre

Another major chair of St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SMTU) «Theory of ship and hydrodynamics» was open on April 25, 2016. The new major chair is the structural subdivision of «Fluid mechanics and acoustics» chair. Vyacheslav Magarovsky, the Head of Fluid Mechanics Department is the head of the new major chair.

The major chairs are intended for application of R&D results in educational activities of the Centre, enhancement of research content in curriculum through involvement of students into the research activities under the guidance of the Krylov Centre experts. All this makes it possible for future engineers not only to get a clear idea of shipbuilding process, but also to contribute to the development of advanced shipbuilding technologies via scientific and industrial activities.

According to Evgeny Appolonov, SMTU Acting Rector, 10 major chairs were already established at the leading shipbuilding companies and the new chairs are still in project. Four major chairs opened at Krylov State Research Centre cover such high-end lines as ship structure and strength, physical fields of marine facilities and ocean engineering structures, ship acoustics. At the moment Krylov Centre is preparing for the establishment of another 2 major chairs.
