Sea. Resources and new technologies.

18 march 2016

The 3rd International conference «Fishery in the Arctic: modern challenges, international practices, prospects» has been opened in Murmansk under the umbrella of the international industrial exhibition «Sea. Resources. Technologies». The conference is organized by the Government of the Murmansk Region with support of the Federal Agency for Fishery. Among the issues covered by the conference one of the most important concerns the development of modern fleet to meet the needs of fishing industry. In October, last year this problem was also widely discussed at the State Council meeting on fisheries industry chaired by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

One of the key areas of KSRC activity is the development of advanced projects for fishing vessels. The guests and participants of the conference had an opportunity to get acquainted with a project of innovative research ship for comprehensive study of biological resources designed by KSRC branch Baltsudoproekt CDB.

Aleksandr Salnikov, Deputy Head of Baltsudoproekt CDB and Chief Designer (advanced projects), told that this ship is intended for comprehensive oceanographic and fishery researches, trawl-acoustic surveys (with consideration of recommendations for noise level of power plant and propulsion unit ICES-209 for speed range up to 11 knots) as well as for bottom and pelagic trawling to solve scientific and research tasks and for experiments with non-trawling gears.

The ability to operate in unrestricted navigation areas including Arctic and Antarctic seas (the ship is designed to Arc4 ice class) is an important feature of the new ship. The ship is expected to be equipped with multi-purpose laboratory complex.

The power plant of this ship is two-shaft diesel-electric low-noise propulsion unit with the principal elements manufactured by Russian companies, that is of particular importance in terms of import substitution.

To design this ship the specialists of Baltsudoproekt CDB used unique design technologies, in particular, ship’s vibroacoustic model allowing the equipment to be arranged in the optimum way, as well as hull shape optimization based on operating conditions of propulsion units and sonar.

It should be noted that Baltsudoproekt is one of the oldest design bureaus in Russia that last year celebrated its 90th anniversary. What is remarkable is that the presentation of the new ship coincided with 100th anniversary of Baltsudoproekt former chief designer E. M. Panferova.
