Baltic Shipyard lays down Ural, third 60 MW icebreaker of Arktika class (Project 22220, KSRC development)

Today, July 25, Baltic Shipyard held a lay-down ceremony of Ural, the third sistership in Arktika class of nuclear 60 MW icebreakers.

«We are two months ahead of schedule with the laying of Ural. We make sure that ship constructions at Baltic Shipyard have accelerated funding», said Sergey Kirienko, Director General of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, during the ceremony.

Mr. Kirienko also expressed his hope that the deliveries of all three Arktika-class icebreakers will meet their respective schedules, i.e. late 2017 for the lead one, Arktika; late 2018 for the second one, Siberia; late 2020 for the third one, Ural.

Mr. Kirienko also reminded that in 2016 design activities should start for the innovative new-generation icebreaker Lider, developed by Iceberg design office (KSRC affiliate).

Apart from Kirienko, the lay-down ceremony was attended by Mr. Alexey Rakhmanov, Director of United Shipbuilding Corporation; Mr. Konstantin Palnikov, Director General of Russian Maritime Registry of Shipping; and Mr. Vladimir Vorobyev, Chief Designer of Iceberg design office.
