Alternative energy source for urban electric transport developed by the Krylov Centre

23 may 2016

In the nearest future, the KSRC-developed hydrogen battery will be used as a power supply not only for vessels, but also for trams and electric buses. Similar environmentally sound technologies are already widely used in China and can be considered as satisfactory evidence for effective implementation of import substitution policy.

Replacement of the buses with new transport vehicles powered by this battery can considerably improve the urban environment because hydrogen fuel cells do not pollute atmosphere with carbon oxides, sulfur, nitrogen and water is the only waste product. Another advantage of hydrogen cells compared to combustion engines are silent operation and wear-resistance. The efficiency is 50–60%.

The agreement between KSRC, manufacturers of municipal transport facilities and electric equipment and «Gorelectrotrans», Saint Petersburg for commencement of joint work regarding application of hydrogen battery as a power supply for urban electric transport will be signed in a week.
